The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Angola in a quarter final match and have qualified for the semi-final in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
A first-half goal from Ademola Lookman secured the opportunity for Nigeria in a 1-0 win over Angola at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Friday.
It was a tensed encounter between Nigeria and Angola at Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan, From the first whistle, both teams showed great determination and skill, with the ball constantly moving from end to end. The players on both sides were firing on all cylinders, creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities.
However, it was Ademola Lookman who once again stole the show for Nigeria. In the 41st minute of the match, Lookman received a pass from Simon Moses and fired a powerful shot into the net, breaking the hearts of Angola fans and giving Nigeria the lead.
Angola fought hard to get back into the game and came close to equalizing in the 58th minute when one of their strikers hit the woodwork, leaving the Nigerian defense relieved.
As the match reached its closing stages, Nigeria almost doubled their lead in the 85th minute. Victor Osimhen found the back of the net, but unfortunately, the goal was ruled out for offside, much to the disappointment of the Nigerian fans.
Despite Angola's determined efforts, Nigeria managed to hold on to their slim lead until the final whistle, securing a hard-fought victory and booking their place in the semi-finals of AFCON 2023.
