Students should exploit new media as tool of entrepreneurship, economic growth - Oko Poly Rector

The Acting Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Uche Onyegbu has charged students to exploit new media as tool of entrepreneurship and growth.

He gave the charge during the 2024 National Conference of the Department of Mass Communication Federal Polytechnic Oko holding at the Ultra Modern Auditorium of the institution.

Dr Onyegbu who was represented by Deputy Rector Admin, Dr Ken Ezekwe, stated that Nigeria has a vibrant technological community to drive business promotions and customer engagements.

He urged relevant agencies to provide digital literacy as well as initiatives such as coding and mentorship.

He also said the government should take advantage of the potentials of new media in enhancing public engagement, good governance and tax collection.

The lead paper presenter, a university Don, Dr Henry Duru who outlined the benefits of new media charged conferees to discuss the social and phycological issues that have kept the advantages of new media away from being reasonably met in Nigeria. 

In a remark, the Head of the Department, Barr. Collins Obiorah stated the theme of the conference is timely. He charged the conferees to give adequate attention to the lead paper charge as well as the theme of the conference.

The lead paper discusant, Dr Onyeka Uwakwe lauded the paper presenter and asserted that psychological and socio millieu of the people need reorientaton in order to maximally reap the benefits of new media. 

The conference has evolved into syndicate stage.
