The leadership of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has directed members of the union to join the national labour strike scheduled to begin on Monday June 3, 2024.
Recall that Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress had Jointly directed all affiliates to embark on indefinite strike following the non-conclusion of an agreement with government on new minimum wage.
A memo issued by the Secretary Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Lawani F. Jimoh directs all members to "fully comply with the directive effective Monday June 3, 2024."

FG begs for more time
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has pleaded with Organised Labour to reconsider its decision to embark on an indefinite strike from Monday, June 3, 2024, in protest against the government’s refusal to raise the proposed minimum wage from N60,000.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, in making the appeal stated that the interest of the masses should be the top priority of organised labour.
