In Anambra, the oldest man in Oko, Chief Bernard Okoli has died at the age of 107. A release from the family authorised by his son, Nnamdi Okoli reads:
'With joy and in total submission to Gods will,the Okoli family of Umudi in Ezioko,Orumba North Local Government, Area wish to announce the demise of Chief Bernard Okoli .
"Until his death,the late Bernard was a devoted christian and a community leader who was well respected for his integrity and selfless service to humanity.
"He was notable for his significant roles in the establishment and promotion of catholicism in Aguata region, particularly Oko in the 1950's.
"His expertise in carpentry in the 1950's took him to several parts of the country. Bernard, a wealthy craftman in his era was one of the foremost owner of a one- story building in oko at that time.

"An accommodating personality, Ogbuefi Chibueze as he is fondly called by title holders and family members made available his house as a place of succour during the treacherous era of the civil war which left many homeless and dejected.
"His comic disposition and wealth of knowledge will be greatly cherished.
"He died at the age of 107 years. Burial arrangements will soon be announced by the family."
