Anambra govt issues letters of recognition to president general Oko community, other newly elected community leaders

Anambra State government has issued letters of recognition to the 34 recently elected Presidents General of Anambra communities where peaceful and successful elections took place during the yuletide. 

The historic event took place at the SSG Hall, inside the Anambra State Government House, Awka.

The Commissioner Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne  issued the Certificates on behalf of the state government and was assisted by the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Okafor Izuchukwu and the Special Advisor to the Governor on Political Matters, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu.

The commissioner congratulated the newly elected presidents and emphasized on the importance of avoiding distractions, particularly in the realm of politics.

The newly elected leaders of Oko Progressive Union have been sworn in. The new leaders were elected on December 30, 2023.The new exectives who were sworn in Saturday were:

National President: Capt. Barr. Casmir C. Nwafor (Rtd.);

National Vice president: Mr Sunday Nwafor;

National Secretary: Barr. Chimezie Ezechukwu;

National Ass. Secretary: Noble Igwilo;

National Treasurer: Mr Vincent Onyedibe

National Financial Secretary: Mr. Nonso Okeke;

National PRO: Mr. Olise Okoye;

National Provost: Mr. Chigbo Chukwujekwu.


Recall that there was a caretaker committee led by comrade Luke Nweke  instituted by the state government. The committee was in office for nine months.

Oko is host community to Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Former Vice President of Nigeria, the late Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme hails from Oko.

Governnor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo recently commissioned a monumental civic centre named after the late Dr Alex Ekwueme who is hailed for several developmental initiatives in Oko
