NSCDC COMMITTED TO PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS, PLEDGES SUPPORT AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has restated its commitment to the protection and observance of human rights in all its operations and in the fight against gender based violence against women.
Mr. Edwin Osuala the Anambra State Commandant stated this on Tuesday, 12th, December at a breakfast dialogue organized by RoLAC in collaboration with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Anambra State to reflect on Human Rights Observance in the state.
Represented by the Command's Spokesperson, DSC Okadigbo Edwin, he said, the Corps is doing all that is humanly possible within the confines of established constitutional means, to ensure that the rights of citizens remained inviolable as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution and in conformity with United Nations Declarations on Human Rights.

"We have carried out at all times the duty imposed upon us by law, by upholding all measures to protecting all persons against illegal acts in adherence to the global best practices on human rights. We have also impacted on our personnel the best practices for communicating and conducting themselves during encounters with members of the public" he said.
Mr. Osuala said the NSCDC firmly believe the importance of incorporating the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into its operations ,in order to build trust and confidence with the populace.
"NSCDC as an institution , has paid particular attention to actions that foster a relationship of trust between the Corps and the populace through the entrenchment of the rule of law, respect for human rights , fight against discrimination and by extension violence against women. We have also tasked our personnel to ensure that rights of suspects are protected and cared for"
"We deeply stress the highest commitment of the Corps for the promotion of human rights. The Corps also recommit itself to addressing gender based violence with the creation of Gender unit saddled with the responsibilities to preventing the occurrence of gender based violence , providing response services to those who need support and defend those affected by gender based violence among others" he concluded.
He appealed to members of the public to partner the NSCDC in its renewed efforts aimed at ending all forms of gender based violence and ensure timely delivery of justice to the victims.
Expressing his appreciation to officers and men for their commitment and proactive modus operandi in observing human rights, he called for the sustainance of the tempo to earn the needed trust and cooperation between the Corps and members of the public in volunteering useful information on gender based violence to the Corps, thereby contributing to more effective crime fighting and enhancement of justice for victims.
