Anambra: Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu condemns killings in Nibo, calls for urgent action

The House of Representatives Member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu, has strongly condemned the gruesome killings of several youths in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area, by unidentified gunmen on Sunday, October 20th, 2024.
In a statement issued on Monday, Prof. Orogbu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, describing the killings as a "senseless act of violence" that has shaken the community. While offering her heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Nibo community, she called for urgent and decisive action to address the rising insecurity in Anambra State.
Prof. Orogbu further urged the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, to prioritize finding a lasting solution to the wave of insecurity that is threatening the peace and stability of the state. She stressed that without security, no meaningful development can take place in any society.
"The recent killings in Nibo are a clear sign that insecurity is creeping into our communities, and this is unacceptable. I urge Governor Soludo, in collaboration with security agencies and relevant stakeholders, to take immediate action to restore peace and ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice," she said.
Prof. Orogbu emphasized that insecurity, if left unchecked, will stifle economic growth, development, and the general well-being of the people. She called on the government to deploy all necessary resources to tackle the security challenges head-on and restore confidence among residents of the state.
The House of Representatives Member also reiterated her commitment towards working with all stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of her constituents, adding that only a secure environment can guarantee the prosperity of the people of Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
