Nigerian-born Physician, Dr. Aluya, becomes Chief Medical Officer, Newark Community Health Centers, in New Jersey, USA

Recently appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Newark Community Health Centers (NCHC), Newark, New Jersey, Dr Nelson Aluya, MBBS, MD, has resumed at his new duty post.

NCHC, Newark, New Jersey is a Federal Qualified Health Center, and the Nigerian born American physician considers his new assignment “a great privilege to serve and make bigger impact on the overall health status of our community.”

Dr Aluya is trained in both Pediatrics and Internal medicine with extensive broad-based training and clinical experience in over three continents of the world. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey, a former attending Physician at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and a former Medical Director of the Sinai Rehabilitation Center, the largest rehabilitation center in Essex County, Newark, New Jersey. U.S.A.

He has led multiple local and international medical missions providing his expertise and selfless service to low socio-economic groups as well as economically and socially displaced and immigrant families. Dr Aluya has been a guest speaker at numerous local and international academic workshops, conferences and seminars and has published several peer reviewed articles in reputable professional journals across the world.

He contributes to newspapers and runs commentaries on radio and television as well as on zoom platforms on key health issues that make considerable medical impact on lives in the US and beyond. Health issues he has discussed at great length include diabetes and drug addiction in the community. He is a mentor to numerous young minds globally, a public speaker and the host of the Aluya Global Project ( AGP) on the New African Broadcasting Network TV (NABNT). He is the recipient of numerous local and international awards, including the Global Humanitarian Award He has was nominated for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching and is also a recipient of the Ambassador for Peace Award by the Universal Peace Federation.

Dr Aluya continues to dedicate his utmost effort to teaching and research with the aim of improving healthcare delivery especially in the area of diabetes mellitus for all of humanity and especially for people of African descent by building the frame work for recognizing the barriers to care, creating social and political awareness of the debilitating emotional, economic and social burdens of the disease. More recently, he has invested energy and resources on the education of the community on the impact and future of science and technology on healthcare, as well as on public awareness of, treatment and management of COVID-19 infection and on vaccines awareness.

He, appropriately, refers to himself as a medical advocate.
