The distinguished member representing Orumba North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Dr. (Engr) Ernest Onyekwena during a valedictory session held in his honor.
The session, which took place at the Anambra State House of Assembly, was attended by several dignitaries, lawmakers, and community leaders who came to pay their respects to a man whose contributions have left an indelible mark on both the state and the nation.
In his moving speech, Hon. Mazi Paul Obu highlighted the remarkable life and legacy of Dr. Onyekwena, recalling his service as a member of the old Anambra State House of Assembly during the Second Republic in 1983. Representing the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), Dr. Onyekwena worked alongside notable figures such as President Shehu Shagari, Vice President Alex Ekwueme, and Governor Chief C.C. Onoh. Despite his tenure being cut short after six months by the military regime, Dr. Onyekwena made significant strides as the Chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education.

Hon. Mazi Paul Obu also emphasized Dr. Onyekwena’s critical role in advancing higher education in Anambra State.
Beyond his legislative achievements, Dr. Onyekwena was celebrated for his professional endeavors as an Agricultural Engineer and entrepreneur.
In addition to his professional and political accomplishments, Dr. Onyekwena was deeply involved in community service.
Hon. Mazi Paul Obu concluded his speech by urging all present to remember and celebrate the life of Dr. Onyekwena, whose dedication to public service and community development has left a lasting legacy in Anambra State.
