The controversy surrounding the interview for the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede rages on as the internal Selection Board members of the institution have petitioned the governing council over alleged violation of Polytechnic Amendment Act (2019).
In a three-page letter to the governing council, with the title "Truncated process for the appointment of a substantive Rector for the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede," the members stated that they "declined further participation in the process until issues raised were addressed as such would impact negatively on the process and persons in the polytechnic."
Similarly, some senior staff members of the institution have filed a petition with the Federal Government regarding the recruitment process for a new rector for the institution.
The petition, addressed to the Federal Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman and signed by six staff members, was made available to the press in Owerri on Sunday.

The Selection Board asserted in the letter that Prof Okorie Osonwa, former Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba was appointed as resource person and was found wanting as he has less than three years on the job as former Rector as required by the law.
The members of Selection Board also explained reservations on the use of written examinations particularly when the questions and marking guide were prepared by unknown persons in an unknown locations.
"At the end of the contentious written examination, our attention was brought to a handwritten letter of protest submitted to the Selection Board written by six out of seven alleging that the examination was poorly administered and against the provisions of the Act. The letter was curiously kept away from the Selection Board by the Chairman.
" We therefore requested the chairman to allow the Selection Board the opportunity to interrogate the issue of breach in the integrity of the process since it came in while the process was still on. The chairman rejected this plea insisting on going ahead with the collation.
"As a consequence, we at that point declined further participation in the process until issues raised were addressed as such would impact negatively on the process and persons in the polytechnic."
