The lady with a golden voice, Nigerian singer and superstar, Onyeka Onwenu whose songs were the rave of Nigerian airwaves in the 80s and 90s died at 72 at a party in Lagos.
The music legend was said to have completed an engaging performance on Tuesday night, July 30, but collapsed after her superlative performance. She was later confirmed dead at the Reddington Hospital, Lagos
Onwenu was attended a friend’s birthday party and was the cynosure of all eyes due her thrilling stage performance.
Onyeka Onwenu was born on May 31, 1952 and reigned over decades especially between 80s-90.
Her first album with Polygram, In The Morning Light, was released in 1984. Some of her popular songs were “One Love,” “Iyogogo,” and “Ekwe.”
We mourn her demise and May her soul rest peacefully.
